something about a stiff headwind makes me slow down, gasp for breath, and then give up early and go inside to a more reasonable environment.

good job.

I've had the gasping sensation - the only way to breath is to turn your head so far that you can't see where you're going. I'm sure it looks interesting to people driving past, seeing a crazy runner shake his head in an exaggerated 'no' motion...

That was an AWESOME track work yesterday. NICE mileage to start the week off!

Headwind always takes my breath away and it's like running into an invisible wall! GOOD JOB plowing through it! Looking STRONG, Jason!

It seems to make me swallow bugs...

Are you running TOU half???

From Jason McK on Tue, Aug 17, 2010 at 16:50:07 from 63.255.173.99

Kelli - yes, actually the half and then the full!

From Kelli on Tue, Aug 17, 2010 at 17:22:46 from 71.219.102.155

I knew you were doing the full (3:10 for sure), just wondered about the half! I am going to race the half and pace the full, so maybe our paths will cross.

From Jason McK on Tue, Aug 17, 2010 at 17:35:23 from 63.255.173.99

Maybe so! What is you target race time? And your full pace?

From Kelli on Tue, Aug 17, 2010 at 17:43:12 from 71.219.102.155

The person I am pacing for the full will probably come in around 4:15 or so, about an HOUR after you!!!!

I am not sure for the half. I want 1:32 but not sure if I can do it. I ran it injured last year in 1:41 something so i am not sure what I can do. I guess I can just DO MY BEST!

How about you? Are you aiming to beat last year's half time? That would be AWESOME.

From Jason McK on Tue, Aug 17, 2010 at 18:19:49 from 63.255.173.99

That's generous of you to pace someone at 2 minutes/mile slower than you race. You'll have to tell me how that goes - I will be running with my sister in her 1st full next year at the Ogden Marathon.

I sure hope to beat last years time. I don't know that my training this year has necessarily made me any faster, but mostly just enabled me to run as fast for longer... I ran it a week and a half ago in 1:27:37 and hope that a race atmosphere can help me cut off a few minutes.

From Kelli on Tue, Aug 17, 2010 at 18:27:11 from 71.219.102.155

WOW----i think you will for sure beat that. The race atmosphere really gets people moving. How exciting, that is going to be a heck of a race for you.

The same girl I am pacing for the full is also running the half, so I hope I have enough steam left in me to go back and get her.

From Jason McK on Tue, Aug 17, 2010 at 18:39:20 from 63.255.173.99

You will have steam. A half race takes all but 3 miles of carbohydrates out of you, but still leaves you with miles and miles of 9-10 min/mile energy! (after a small rest of course.) Nothing scientific here, I just know that after 16 miles at half marathon pace or so, I can't go any faster than 9-10 min/miles, but can still finish a marathon - my first TOU marathon was something like that...

Good point!
