7:51.9 164      Cool down

Many runners/bikers out.  I saw an older(than me) couple in Providence, both wearing orange shirts.  Their upper bodies were both leaning forward a little (an amount that I would consider natural and good).  His body continued at the same angle to his ankles, looking easy and natural.  Her's bent at the waist, with her feet way out in front, looking unnatural and labored...  I wonder if I am a good judge of running form.  Her stance almost reminds me of my wife's, though she hasn't really let me see her run for a few years.

That is some serious data (and super long run)!!!

Nicely done. :)

From Jason McK on Fri, Jul 30, 2010 at 12:16:28 from 63.255.173.99

Thanks - but maybe the data is a waste of time. I can't help but record it, though I'm sure the people (recreational runners) who just run and don't pay attention to data actually perform better...

From AZDesertmonsoon on Fri, Jul 30, 2010 at 12:22:29 from 204.17.31.126

I love all the data. I think it will be interesting to look at down the road.

From allie on Fri, Jul 30, 2010 at 12:29:24 from 174.23.226.74

he is data man!

really great run. that is some serious distance for a training run, but you will be strong for those miles late in the race. your training is great; keep it up.

From Jason McK on Fri, Jul 30, 2010 at 12:44:18 from 63.255.173.99

AZDesert - that's at least something beneficial!

allie - thanks. Hopefully you're right. Hey, what is your take on 'racing' the TOU half 3 weeks before running the TOU full? Should I just use the half as a training run, or is there enough time to recover that racing the half wouldn't affect my full time?

From allie on Fri, Jul 30, 2010 at 13:04:47 from 174.23.226.74

i think racing the half is a great way to sharpen for the full, especially since it follows the same course. i think 3 weeks is plenty of time to recover even if you were to race it all out.the result in the half will be a fairly good indicator of what kind of time you can expect in the full.

you might also want to consider just practicing your marathon goal pace to get a feel for the pace/effort at each mile. use the race as a confidence building run for the full.

From Jason McK on Fri, Jul 30, 2010 at 13:28:56 from 63.255.173.99

allie - thanks. I guess both sound good. I'm sure pride will win out and I'll have to race (my younger brother hasn't beaten me in a half yet). But I'd let him win if the advice were against racing - I'm not THAT proud.

From Huans32 on Fri, Jul 30, 2010 at 13:36:07 from 138.64.8.52

I would do the half also. And race it just as if I was doing it in the full. And feel how those paces will feel. And it will be great for you to do it since you wont over do it. Your lucky to have your goal BQ race be so close. Take advantage of that data man.:)

I think the more data you have the better you can train and see progress.

I guess that is two votes for Marathon pace?
